The actual price of an AI project.
Speaking of ailments, since I have a bad back, I pay more than 200 euros a month to go somewhere to exercise.
And that may seem very expensive to you.
To me it seems very expensive and exorbitant if I call it “gym”.
But it seems fine to me if I call it “rehabilitation”.
Expensive, cheap. Gym, rehab.
Exercise, pilates. Expensive. A bargain.
Things are expensive or cheap, the same things I mean, depending on what you call them.
Don’t call it a trip, call it a honeymoon. You know what I mean.
It’s all in the mental box you put it in.
With AI in Medicine it’s no different.
If you’re still ignorant enough about this to think that an AI project goes in the box of the “cool”, “disruptive”, that it’s “the future”,… then it’s expensive as hell.
If you want the year award of the pharma innovator, if you want to be on Linkedin smiling while you shake hands with your Chairman, then you are throwing money away. Really, you’re throwing it away.
If that´s teh case you’re better off putting on some metaverse glasses and having virtual meetings with dummies. Or get a mug 3D printed. Much more innovative, of course.
Now, if you understand that clinical algorithm you do with AI serves to decide:
– which subgroup of oncology patients will respond to a drug
– which patients have a higher probability of a flare or relapse
– which patients have a high pre-test probability of testing positive to a genomic test
then it’s dirt cheap. Much more than a Da Vinci robot, much more than many drugs. And with more impact.
And I am not telling you these examples because I made them up.
They are what we are doing today.
In a network of more than 200 hospitals. In 14 countries.
And if you want to do something absurdly profitable that only a small part of the healthcare sector has realized yet, but that in a few years will be the norm, then we can talk here.
P.S. I’ve told you many times, but I’ll tell you again. AI is not a thing to brag about. It’s mathematics supported by computation. The same reason that makes it less fun, makes it robust and reliable.
